Marisa Alves
Marisa is from Cascais. She qualified in Nursing at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2012 and spent the next ten years at the Alcoitão Rehabilitation Medicine Centre, just up the road, treating people in recovery.
Along the way she worked at Cordeiro Saúde in day surgery and recovery, and supervised nursing students at the Lisbon School of Nursing. That combination is where her ease with complex wounds and post-operative care comes from.
She founded A Enfermeira in 2020, to do at people's homes the same work she did in hospital, but without the rush. She does most of the visits herself, and she is the one families call first when a question comes up.

What we do not do, and why we say so
We do not provide end-of-life care, long-term continuing care or permanent support for dependent or bedridden people. It is not a matter of competence. Those cases need a team available 24 hours a day, and we would rather tell you that upfront than accept and fall short.
In those cases we refer you to partners who do exactly that, and do it well. Call us anyway. We will help you work out what you actually need.

We come to your home in Cascais, Oeiras and Sintra. In Cascais and Oeiras, travel is included in the visit price.

Can I trust whoever comes into my home?
Yes. Everyone on the team holds a current professional licence and real experience, and arrives in uniform and identified. We are a small team and always work with the same people, so you do not get a different stranger at every visit.
Do you speak English?
Yes. Marisa cares for families in English, Portuguese, Spanish and French, and a good part of the families she looks after are not Portuguese. For clients with international health insurance, we prepare the invoice and clinical report in English in the format accepted for reimbursement.
How much does it cost? Are there hidden charges?
Prices are published on every service page. The minimum visit is 35€, travel is included in Cascais and Oeiras, and standard materials and the vital signs check are always included. You know the exact price before we confirm the visit and you always get an invoice. There are never surprises.
Is it always the same nurse?
For the great majority of visits, yes. We are a small team and Marisa does almost all the home visits herself. During holidays or an unexpected absence someone else may come, and in that case they read your case before ringing the bell. You never start from scratch.
How quickly can you start?
In most cases we arrange the first visit within 24 to 48 hours. For urgent situations, call us or send a WhatsApp message directly.
Are you a regulated provider?
Yes. A Enfermeira is registered with the ERS, the Portuguese health regulator, and provides the official Complaints Book. We follow professional standards and the GDPR.
